Denn

Many thanks for your efforts. I didn't really hold out much hope for a great improvement and at least the face is a little clearer.

Many thanks again

Hi Alan,

When there is not much detail to begin with I find it difficult - don't much like mine - but have done it now - so here it is!

Cheers

Refresh for the new image...J.J.

Best I can do for the facial features....tried to make him more youthful, less gaunt... Filled out lips and nose a bit more ...
Didn't mess with the uniform...as you can research the actual look of it & do that

Oh, yes, and sorry to be a nag, but also clean the scanner...often, depth
seems to happen when the autofocus goes for the bits of debris on the glass,
rather than the image.....Not sure what type of scanner you have, but it's
good advice anyway!!!! ( Now remind me back! HaHa ) J.J.

Many thanks, you are all so helpful. One idea did occur to me, I have a photo  of Bill's younger brother  from mid 1930s( my paternal grandfather) in fireman's uniform, could this be used in any way at all?

Still seems a  rather  small file. .I scan at 1200 d.p.i. and select only the
area I need. Can you do this on your scanner?  ( ie...select only the
head and nothing around it?
I am afraid that the facial resemblance is not enough to go on with the younger
brother as he has rounder, fuller features. Perhaps a lot younger than when
the older brother was when his was taken.

Oh, I just looked at it closer and it is also heavily compressed....Jpgs already
become compressed so "the less the merrier."   NONE if you want a decent job
done... Just save over the one above so as not to overdo the load on the site.

I will add my corrections to my original, also...and just reply that it's done
( once you get me a bigger, cleaner file)  Thanks much, J.J.

That's very good J.J. - with what you have been given - difficult one this - you still can't make out the eyes even on the larger scan.

Cheers
