Though I did find this - if he was in the 1st Battalion!!

Hello Annie,
There I was on Sunday night really "into" all your information - and then the electricity failed and after waiting an hour I gave up -  there was a storm up in the mountains - it always happens.
I have been searching all the sites mentioned and found a medal card of a John Boatwright with the East Surrey Regiment WW1. nothing yet on the Boar War.
You asked if there were any family stories - Yes, but the only information I have is that he left a relation pregnant and was never seen again - the fruits of that pregnancy was my mothers cousin - who is very interested in finding out what happened to his natual father- (skeletons in the cupboard)!!.
Thank you for your help - it's appreciated.

I will probably be back with more questions.
