Bridger in Mayfield
« on: Wednesday 16 November 05 23:27 GMT (UK) »

Hi

I need help to confirm some stuff i found on the IGI (me not trust it).

It says

1.  John Bridger married Elizabeth Eames on 29 Sep 1827 in Iping, Sussex

2.  Emily Eliza Bridger christened 5 Nov 1837 in Mayfield

Both more than likely to be true. Emily is hopefully the daughter of John & Elizabeth.  It then goes on to say

3.  William Marchant married Sarah Dadswell 22 Aug 1822 at St John the Baptist Lewes.

If anyone can confirm and hopefully add any info, maybe from the registers themselve i'd be most grateful.

I am a bit concerned that Iping and Fernhurst are shown on censuses for the Bridgers but other sources say Mayfield.  I know there are a lot of them which is why i'd like some confirmation.

Thank you very much

Hi
Huh
I had a look at Weald site, they have John born 1807 m Eliza born 1815    I    was working on John born 1801 m Elizabeth born 1806.  So I'm a bit confused, I may have to spend some pennies and get some certificates.

Any thanks again

Patches

If anyone has access to 1841 census and could have a look for these bridgers I'd be most grateful. Huh

Not so confused  Huh anymore, I got the marriage cert it says:

William Marchant of full age, Farmer, Mayfield, father William Marchant Farmer.
married on 4 June in Parish Church Mayfield
Emily Eliza Bridger, 18 years, Mayfield, father John Bridger, Farmer.
witnessed by John Bray(?) and Octavia Echo Bridger.

So Im looking at the Bridger family at Homestalls Farmer in Mayfield on the 1851 census and later at Cowdens Farm on 1871 census.

This means that the John and Elizabeth Eames idea was wrong, I thought it seemed a bit dodgey, and it also means that the tree on Weald site is wrong.

So looking for confirmation of the marriage of John Bridger born 1795 in Mayfield and Mary born 1802 in Mayfield (IGI says her maiden name Bridger and marriage date 13 Aug 1827 in Mayfield) however do not trust IGI.

Also wondering if they had a child Frederick born 1927 (just a hunch).

If anyone has any info it'd be much appreciated.

Thanx

Hi Patches -  Huh Yes the Sussexweald website has quite a few incorrect entries.  My Coleman/Bridgers on there are a bit of a muddle, children in the wrong families and marriages given to the wrong couples.  Do let them know what you have found they will amend details on the site  Cheesy

Good news is - from the SMI

John Bridger married Mary Bridger botp 13th August 1827, Mayfield East Sussex

Thanks for you help

After sorting out the muddle on the Weald site I was thinking that the Bridger marrying Bridger thing was just another little error to fix.  I know same name marriages are normally ok, but my Bridgers arent normal.  Thanks again for confirmation.
