Hoping this marriage is in Wiltshire as the would-be bride & groom are last seen in Castle Combe in 1851.

William BRELEY to Hannah WALLOP both born about 1838 so estimate marriage to be about 1858, as they are married & living in Brighton by 1861.

Hi Jane,

Have found the following:

Marriages, September Quarter 1860

WALLOP, Hannah, Chippenham 5a 69

No William BRELEY in the index for the same quarter however.  Will try variants (I see he is BREYLEY in the 1861 census) and will let you know what I find.

Regards,

Allan

Ahhh, WELL DONE Allan, brownie points for you Wink
Is that from FreeBMD?  I checked that & familysearch several times but with no luck!
Anyway, you've gone part way in solving a mystery, see my thread in the common room,  http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,109696.0.html

As I can't find hide 'nor hair of them in 1871, perhaps they did sail for New Zealand.
Again, many thanks,

Jane

Hi Jane,

The marriage is not on FreeBMD yet so I found it the old fashioned way by trawling through the indexes quarter by quarter!  I've had a look at the other thread and the fascinating story of the sampler, I guess it's a case of looking for  the BRELEYs/BREYLEYs in the passenger lists for emigrants to New Zealand.  Anyone know of any good sites for New Zealand passenger lists?  The ones I've seen require you to look ship by ship.

Jan - sorry I failed to answer your question.  No I don't have the family in 1841 - do you Smiley?

Allan - Thanks, you must have used your 1837online credits for that, bless you!  I have found sites for NZ immigrants, but as you say, mostly it's ship by ship.  They might have gone via Oz and all I can fathom, is to look any time from 8 April 1861 (census night) to 2 April 1871 Shocked  There again, Hannah might have given the sampler to a sister (she had two) who went to NZ.  Probably the easiest thing to do is to find someone to track the Breley couple once in NZ Roll Eyes
Anyway, keep watching the thread,

Jane

Jane,

Don't worry, no credits were spent in tracking dwon the marriage!  1837online is not the only place where you can see the indexes to Births, Marriages & Deaths!

Only Hannah Wallop in Wilts/Somerset in 1841

St Jas Parade, Bath (St James)
Hannah Walop 3 born out of county
HO107/969/3 pg 15

She is listed as a separate household on her own  Huh within a house of multiple occupation, no-one else with same surname so not very helpful for family. Who was with in 51?
No definite for William - do you have a birthplace
from the 51 census?
Cheers Jan Wink

My gg Grandparents and ggg Grandmother were also living in St James Parade, Bath in 1841!  My ggg Grandfather was at sea.  Maybe there was some naval connection (Royal or Merchant) with St James Parade and Hannah was being looked after by relatives as her father was at sea?

Something like that seems probable Al, only trouble is there are about a dozen people in the house in groups or singles so no idea who might have been looking after little Hannah Roll Eyes. Here they all are in case one of them turns up later somewhere.

Hannah's mother was called Susannah according to the 1851 census information from the other thread.  Could Susannah LINN actually have been Susannah WALLOP but incorrectly grouped with Mr LINN rather than with Hannah by the enumerator?

Hi Allan
Susannah is dittoed with the Ashleys although not grouped with them - she is a separate household as is Hannah- but seems likely both might be a mistake. Is Susannah the right age to be Susannah Wallop?

Jan Wink

It looks like she is!  From the other thread http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,109696.msg476101.html#msg476101 Susannah was 42 years old in 1851 so she would have been recorded as 30 in 1841 (rounded down).  Also according to the 1851, Susannah was born in Bath.  Was she "born in county" in the 1841 census?
