Help Needed Please
« on: Friday 31 July 09 11:46 UTC (UK) »

I'm wondering if anybody could help with the following:

I'm trying to find the Birth Certificates and Marriage Certificate of my My Great Great Grandparents. So far, I know the following:

[John Kennedy died in 1893 aged 62, Betsy Kennedy (nee Cranmer) Died in 1907, aged 74.
They were living in Manchester at that time.

I've found them on the English Census's of 1891, 81, 71 and 61. They have declared their place of birth as Perthshire, Scotland.

I have not been able to find them on the 1851 English Census therefore I'm assuming they were in their native Scotland at this time. Alas I no longer have access to the Scotland Census records.

My next port of call would presumably be their marriage but I dont have access to these records either. Would anybody who does have access, please check for me to see if an index can be found?

alternatively, if someone could point me in the direction of the Scottish BMD indexes i'd be very grateful.

I know the name John Kennedy is going to be a very common one in Scotland and I cant see how i'm going to be able to find a birth certifcate for him based on the info I have.

Can anyone please help.

No marriage that I can find on SP ( http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk ) - see later posts from Andy and I

John Kennedy a bit too common for me to search easily for you.

No births for Betsy (a few Elizabeths)
Cranmer seems to be a Bonhill / Dunbartonshire name  father Cranmore was born England according to '41 census
Quite a few families in Dunbartonshire though.

Brothers?

06/06/1841
WILLIAM
GROS 395/ 0060 0141

24/02/1837
ROBERT
GROS 395/ 0060 0220

parents CRANMER/MARGARET WILSON
married Tibbermore   PERTH

Will check census shortly.

Hi

The IGI has a EExtracted marriage between John KENNEDY and Elizabeth CRANMOOR 9th April 1852 Meigle, Pertshire that is a possibility. Unfortunately this precedes civil registration which commenced in 1855.

Missed marriage before because of spelling - I should have used alternatives  Sad

From SP

09/04/1852   KENNEDY   JOHN / ELIZABETH CRANMOOR   Meigle PERTH
GROS 379/ 0030 0079

This document will have very limited detail as it is a copy from the OPR.  With a bit of luck, it might show a parent or other snippet of info. Nice doc to have regardless, if it is the correct person.

I need to go now.
Hope some of this helps.

If you are using SP register here first ( http://www.ancestralscotland.com/signup/register/ ) - it'll give you 10 credits - enough for you to get a copy of this marriage record (although because it's pre 1855 detail will be limited)

Jings! family research is TOO addictive.
I'm now running 15 minutes late.

Here are some other Tibbermore births that might be worth looking at on SP (younger siblings?).
Being post '55, these will give much more detail than any pre '55 records.

1855 CHRISTINA
GROS 395/00 0018

1862 ROBERT
395/00 0025

1860 SAMUEL MCCLEARY
395/00 0028

1855 SARAH
395/00 0001

1858 JOHN CRANNER
395/00 0031

There are some later births in the area too but considering Betsy's likely age, they are unlikely to be siblings, possible descendants of siblings.

Definitely off out now!
