Feeling fed up!
« on: Friday 10 February 06 20:05 UTC (UK) »

I just wanted to share my disappointment of the day because I knew you would all understand!

Every now and again I google some of the key names in my tree just to see if anything comes up.  Yesterday I googled J S Harrisson who was my gg grandfather and is also the name of the family brush making company that my grandfather eventually ran (J S Harrisson & Sons)

Imagine my surprise when a result came up on Ebay for a 19th C Cast Iron Boot Scraper made by J S Harrisson & Sons.  How exciting!!  Cheesy Cheesy I clicked on the link and nothing of that description  Cry  Cry Managed to work out who was selling it, so emailed them to ask if they still had it, but it was sold  Cry Cry

I'm now feeling completely fed up  Sad

Do you know who was selling it? Perhaps if you asked nicely they would let you know who bought it and you could make an offer for it.

You could ask them to pass your e-mail addy on to the buyer with a message to contact you, if you explain the family connection I'm sure they will understand why you are interested.

Hi

If you have the date (or rough date) when the item was sold, you could check the sellers' feedback to get the buyers' details.  You could then contact the buyer and explain your interest.

cheers

oh that is crap - so sorry  Undecided

I have to say I was browsing ebay for this very reason at the weekend and I was absolutley staggered at the amount of war medals with the recipients engraved names on -  on ebay..

One listing was a WW1 medal which the owner had found in his cupboard (but didnt belong to his family)

Maybe we should set up an ebay watch - not sure how though...

Thanks for the sympathy and suggecstions Smiley

I too was completely staggered by how many medals were on there.  I'm beginning to wonder if I should make a habit of checking once a week (or more).

I can't tell when it sold as the listing for it is no longer there and the seller didn't reply to my second email asking when and who it was sold to even though I explained why I was interested.  All he said in the first email was that it was sold.  It was actually on Ebay.ie which I assume is the irish version.
I think I'm going to spend a few hours on ebay searching for my key names just in case.  I wonder how many results I'll get for 'White'  Undecided Wink

jeanyon (2116) was the seller.  He signed his email John.
He has a lot of items on sale at the moment and definitely seems to be UK based.  The item was described as '19th C Cast Iron Boot Scraper made by J S Harrisson & Sons'

Thanks  Cheesy

Maybe we should set up an ebay watch - not sure how though...

Trouble is sometime you see stuff that only has a day or so to go - if I see anything I see if there's anyone on the surname interest list - or search the site if it's a reasonably uncommon name.   Have found a couple of things for people - usually end up at way too much money though Angry.    If you ask nicely the seller will sometimes take a better photo for you Wink

Nothing worse than finding out about something after it's gone though - I'd be absolutely gutted - can only imagine how rotten you feel Julie- don't know what'd be worse though - if it went for more than you could reasonably afford - or less!

However, I shall keep a look out for any J S Harrisson....... Smiley

Hi Julie

The listing must have been more than 30 days old. I just did a search on completed listings for both the sell er and the item and it didn't show up. Unfortunately you can only go back 30 days which is a shame as you would have been able to get a picture and the buyers user name.

It was worth a try anyway

Sorry   Cry

Smiley Thanks for trying Debbie - much appreciated.  I couldn't really understand why it came up on Google and I then couldn't find it when I clicked on the link.  Oh well...put that one down to experience  Undecided
