King's Quay Street, Harwich 1850
« on: Saturday 10 December 05 05:13 GMT (UK) »

In reviewing birth details of Charlotte Lydia Zelley.
she was born somwhere at King's Quay Street
in Harwich in the District of Tendring Jan. 22, 1850.
Daughter of Coastguard (Mariner) Richard Zelley
and Mary Ann White.

So an important question concerning King's Quay
in the 1840's & 1850's was it a Coast Guard base?

Sorry, don't know answer to your question, but I would say it was highly likely to be a coastgurad base.

I have an ancestor (William Green) who was at 32 Kings Quay Street in 1891 and 1901. I have looked at my records but there are no Zelleys as immediate neighbours on the census pages I have.

Kings Quay Street is still there, with many of the old houses.
There is a lighthouse on the harbour side, if I remember rightly, so likely to be a coastguard around.

That is the correct Richard and Mary Ann Zelley
in 1881.  Also, in 1881, Charlotte Lydia Zelley
is Mrs Charlotte Pearce living in Weymouth.
