Hi Gordon,

I am really interested in how William was born in Kings Island and who his parents were- You decide which site you will work on. Maybe we can all crack this one !!Did you ask on the Emigrants site?

We to would like to know its been a puzzler for 20 yrs odd, i sent sent emails to Tasmania got very little help there, one thing i have found out over the last couple of days was another family    of Moores in Norwich where the daughters were all in Van Demains land, I posted a request  and got a transcription very quickly, now as i see it his date of birth fits in right between the girls, but this as we know have to be correct i will cut and paste it so you can see it below ...hopefully, i will put a post on that Emigrants site, is there a special section or do i go in like this site, i am very sorry that i seem to be posting quite a lot but as i said earlier what took 20yrs to do and finding all this info is quite exciting, i will post on that site and watch, i will also lay off the requests for a few days but will answer any queries what need answering, hopfully togather we can crack this one.
                              regards Gordon

Thanks to Alllegs for thr following..

Hi Gordon,

Here are your family in 1861, I've looked on the 1851 but can't find them, I think they may have been in Australia...

RG9/1215 folio 13 pg 23

Norwich St Julien
West Side Ring
St Baxters Gardens

William M Moore, head, 52, Chelsea Pensioner and staff sergent with Militia, born Norwich
Elizabeth Moore, wife, 35, born Horstead
Elizabeth Moore, daughter, 19, dress maker, born Port Arthur, Australia
Sophia I Moore, daughter, 13, born Hobart Town, Australia
James Clarke, son in law, 10, born Norwich
Harriet Clarke, daughter in law, 8, born Norwich

I'm not sure how James and Harried can be son and daughter in law at their ages, I'm guessing they must be cousins or neice/nephew...?

Hi Gordon,

Been looking at the census for 1861 and a couple of interesting facts came to me....but you have probably noticed these ?...

Anyway, just in case you haven't....

1) Wife Elizabeth was 17 years younger than her husband William.

2) Wife Elizabeth was only 16 when she had daughter Elizabeth in Australia...which means she was in Australia around 1842.

3) Husband William is shown as a Chelsea Pensioner and (can't quite make this out) Staff something Militia? This might be why he was in Australia?....Navy?...Army?

Just off to check out the " in-laws" as James was 10 years old... he might be on the 1851 census...

Ah.....! CP has beaten me to it!

So, Williams children are not Elizabeths children, her's are Harriet and James! That explains a lot!

So maybe Williams 1st wife died in Australia and that why they came back to Norwich?

Gordon...
perhaps your William Henry Moore came back with his father and sisters and decided that he didn't want to live at home?...

I've lost track now...lol...Did you find William Henry on the 1861 census?

Yes I agree that he could easily fit in between the two sisters. But this is only an assumption at the moment. What you now need is a definate date of birth, ie birth cert. to prove all this..Are there any web-sites similar to Ancestry for Australia?

To be honest the sites i went to were links from other sites and had very little in the way of research  so they could have been those sites, there is so much out there you don,t know where to turn next.
            Thanks very Much

Hi Gordon,

The only William Henry Moore that I can find is William Henry Moore born 1840 Church of England - New South Wales. Father - William Moore. Mother - Harriet.
There is also a William Moore born N.S.W. 1845 - but no parents names. It does look like that William was military (not a convict) - so there must be records him.
The Emigrants page - section Australia - there they will be able to inform you - where to check for information.
