Standish family in Roscrea
« on: Wednesday 08 September 04 20:33 UTC (UK) »

Hi - wondering if anyone can help with the births of James Middleton Standish ca 1850 and Thomas Standish ca 1860 and any other children of Robert Standish and Ann Delaney.  Thomas was supposedly born in Roscrea - not sure about the others.  I would be grateful for any help. Smiley
Thanks
Rachel

Hi,

If they were Anglican, their births should be registered in the general registry office. The indexes can be searched here in Dublin or in your local family History centre. If they were catholic, you need to go to parish records for Roscrea. These records are held in the National Library in Dublin.

Hi Kate

Thanks for your reply, which somehow had escaped me till now.  I live in Western Australia so my chances of getting to Dublin in the near future are very slim.  Is there anyone there able to do look-ups by any chance?

Many thanks

Hi Rachel,

Do you have a Family History centre anywhere near you? Part of the church of the latter day saints? They have the birth indexes for births registered post 1864. Going through parish records without a close date is frustrating and time consuming.

I would suggest if you don't want to pay a researcher, post the query on a Standish name message board and search the IGI database (if you haven't already)
