Nickname - Tinkie
« on: Thursday 09 September 04 03:14 BST (UK) »

Good Morning

Perhaps somebody can help with this.

Grandmother often called grandfather Jamesee (probably spelt wrong) and he called her Tinkie.

Any chance this nickname would link to a first name common during the late 1800's early 1900's.

Thanks

Hi Harold,

Nora's ideas are good,  I always thought it was an abbreviation of Tinkerbell,  as in Peter Pan.  I do not know if it is used in the book.

If you Google Tinkie,  lots of Dutch pages come up,  my Dutch is rusty non-existant so I do not know the link there but if you have Dutch links that may explain it.

No Dutch, but I believe grandfather's family was a combination of irish and french.
