Where in Erith?
« on: Thursday 15 December 05 18:40 GMT (UK) »

Hi

My Gran's family were travellers. Her mother was born in HEATHS YARD, 1865.  In 1871 the family were living at ROYAL HILL.
Can someone please tell me where, in Erith, these places were?

Thank you very much,
Pauline

Royal Hill is now known as Bexley Road (A220). This is the road between Northumberland Heath and Erith.  Could you please tell me what names you are researching as i have connections to Royal Hill

I too have connections with Royal Hill. Do the Durrant or Jeffery families appear in your records.

Not so far but we are still unravelling the family tree.

Hi,

Thanks for that Trish, would have been better off looking on a modern map instead of one of my old Erith maps!
Yes Ajay we are connected to a Joseph Durrant who married Elizabeth Coleshill, Bexley 1845.
My family on Royal Hill, 1871, are Peter Adams and Eliza [nee Coleshill]. Her mother was Ann Harber also a traveller. Think she was connected to Sanders/Sandars. Back as far as 1800 and still digging! Incidently, I have a May Jeffery married to John Belville, Folkestone abt 1795. A completely different family, not travellers as far as I am aware.

Best wishes for Christmas,
Pauline

Hi Pauline,
Joseph Durrant / Elizabeth Colesill are my ggg grandparents and I am descended from their son John Thomas Durrant and his marriage to Alice Wilders. Do you have any info on Joseph's parents, all I know is father also called Joseph and his second marriage was to Charlotte Walker.

Sorry Ajay, have'nt followed up on Joseph and Elizabeth yet. You will know yourself how difficult these travelling families are to trace!
I am putting my research away until January then will start digging again. I will contact you if I find anything.
My Eliza is daughter of James Coleshill. I assume Elizabeth may be daughter of his brother [William? Alexander?]
regards,
Pauline

Hi Pauline,
Did not know these were travelling families but have copy of Joseph Durrant / Elizabeth Colesill marriage cert in 1845 which shows her father as Alexander (deceased).
Perhaps we could pick this up again in the new year when hopefully we can exchange info.
Merry Xmas

Hi Pauline,
I've only just seen your posting in Jan 2006 as never got notice of reply. Can you remember what info you had as I've started researching my Colesill line again.
