MARKS in Waterford - 1800's
« on: Friday 16 December 05 08:31 UTC (UK) »

I am seeking information on John Marks and Brigid Gavan who were in Waterford c. 1820's.  They had at least 4 children including Thomas, Brigid, Honor and George Marks.  I know what happened to the son George but no ideas on the other siblings or parents.  Any help greatly appreciated.

Hello Audrey,

What denomination was Gavan and Marks families? Were they members of the Catholic faith, the Established Church (Anglicans or Church of Ireland) or Presbyterians?

You'll have to rely on Church records as civil registration in Ireland was not introduced until 1864. Non Catholic marriages were registered from 1845 onwards. When registration for BDMS started in 1864 some people didn't bother with the registration for a few years after that date. Keep your fingers crossed that church records still exist.
