Overton-Market Parish Records, Fisher

If anyone has access to the parish records for Stoke Dry, Rutland, I would very much appreciate a lookup for the marriage of -

        John Fisher  June 3rd 1799  to Mary.

According to the IGI the marriage took place at the Parish Church of Overton-Market and is recorded in the Bishops Transcripts 1708-1812.

I am hoping to find Mary's surname to prove that she is my 3rd great grandmother.

Hi,

I don’t have the Stoke Dry parish records, but I think I can help you with the village names as I come from Rutland. There is no parish church called Overton-Market anywhere in Rutland, and never has been. However there is a village called Market Overton, which is about 14 miles from the village of Stoke Dry. So I think you might want the parish records for Market Overton, not Stoke Dry. English churches are generally named after saints, so a supposed church name like Overton-Market should be treated with suspicion!   Smiley
