Has ASHTON-ON-MERSEY always been in Cheshire?
« on: Thursday 22 December 05 09:49 UTC (UK) »

Hi, Everyone,
Can I ask rather a naive question - has Ashton on Mersey always been in the County of Cheshire?  It's just that I'm wondering whether it could ever have been confused with Ashton under Lyne in Lancashire.
Years ago an American on a European trip came visiting me when I was at College at a little place called Keswick, just outside Norwich.  Of course, she first of all ended up trying to find me in Keswick, in the Lake District.
So there is sometimes confusion...
Very best wishes,
Keith

Hi

Always been in Cheshire, but I can see how a foreigner would get the two mixed up.

Thanks, Peter,
And I would definitely class myself as a foreigner to Cheshire, never having (so far) chased up any family history in this County...
