Hi all
 Looking for info on Lane family in Somerset [possibly Templecloud] Charles born 1809 unknown parents. Transported to Australia 1829 onboard claudine for a life sentence. He must have been pardoned because he married in 1842 to Ann Lord [Lloyde] and had a few children .

Somerset records are very hard to find just yet, but here's what I can tell you about your Charles LANE.

First off, he would not have been pardoned to get married, convicts could marry in Australia after 7 years {I think},  it was deemed by those who knew best that there was no hope of a convict getting back to England, so remarriage was quite ok & Legal.
A life sentence impossed in England amounted to a 14 years sentence in the colony. Even then you could get less time than the 14 years for being of good behaviour.

Charles LANE married Ann LLOYDE at Christ Church, in the parish of Hexham, Newcastle, NSW

They had Ten children in areas surrounding their marriage place.
MARY 1842 bapt C of E in the parish of Hexham
CHARLES 1843 bapt Methodist Hunterr River, Newcastle
JAMES 1845, bapt Methodist, Maitland
WILLIAM H 1847, bapt Methodist, Maitland
ALBERT 1852, bapt Methodist, Maitland
EDWARD 1854. bapt Methodist, Maitland
Un named FEMALE 1856, Newcastle
ALFRED 1858, Newcastle
Un named Male 1860, Newcastle
Un named FEMALE 1862, Newcastle. 

Charles died in 1874 in Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia.
The registration gives his parents names as James & Catherine LANE.

I know this doesn't give a place of birth, but it might help oin some way.
