ABRAHAM family Dunmore area
« on: Monday 26 December 05 20:01 UTC (UK) »

I am researching the Abraham family who lived at Quinultagh near Dunmore but have since left the cottage. I belive the family came to the area via Kiltulagh.
Since emigrating from Ireland the name has undergone changes and now could be Abram, Abrams, Hebron, or Habron.
Thanks for any help.

Dear Chris
As far as I know James Abraham born 1818 in Kiltulagh married Nora Sheridan who lived in Quinultagh at the time, they lived in the family home in Quinultagh as did their descendants, my GGfather came to England in the 1880s but his siblings stayed in the family home. I visited Quinultagh in the 1960s when John Abraham and Margaret Abraham nee Hopkins lived there.
I visited again a few years back and the new bungalow was boarded up and the whole place abandoned.
I would be grateful if you have any information.

Hiya Howard,

I assume you are seeking details of ancestors as well as an explanation as to why John and Margaret would leave a place boarded up and abandoned. There is a branch of County Galway Libraries at Dunmore. You might learn more by writing to them. They appear to have no email address so you could probably email the Galway library who would pass the message to the branch at Dunmore.

Since my last post I have learned that the spelling is wrong, its Quinaltagh in the Barony of Dunmore, in the Union of Tuam.
Also that in 1885 my GGFather Thomas Abraham married Bridget GLYNN also from Quinaltagh, I see that there were many Glynns in Quinaltagh in those times, and I know her brother is buried in our local cemetery in England.
I also know that a recent relative married Martin Kearns who has since sadly died.
I would love to get information or even contact anyone who may be related and still lives in Ireland.
