Anybody know if this pub is still standing?

It was at 171 Alma Street and my ancestor lived their with his stepfather in 1861.

Merry Xmas and Happy New Year to you all!  Grin

Don't know if the Inn is still there but thought you might like the history of the pub name?
The Alma Inn is named after the Battle of Alma which took place during the Crimean War in 1854. The Alma is a river in the Ukraine. It was here that the Allied forces won their first battle against the Russians. Subsequently, the name was widely adopted by pubs throughout England. In addition, streets were also named to commemorate the event. Indeed, the daughters of the men who fought there were given the name. The Crimean War was fought for two years by Great Britain, France and Turkey against Russia. The underlying struggle was for control of the Black Sea and the eastern Mediterranean. The main action of the war was the prolonged Russian attempt to relieve the besieged city of Sebastopol. The two most famous engagements were the battles of Balaklava and Inkerman. The former is remembered for The Charge of the Light Brigade. The best known figure to emerge was Florence Nightingale.

Thanks for that info.

As it happens I have had an email from someone who is apparently buying the building that was formerly "Alma Inn".
