Sorry - yet another post from me!

Is there any other way of searching/looking up carlisle newspapers rather than having to come to Carlisle (I live just outside Glasgow).

I am particularly interested newspaper reports of a drowning at Silloth in early July 1906 and another death in 1960, where JAMES (JIM) CLIFFORD was knocked off his bike and then crushed by a horse box, He later died of his injuries.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks

Anna

Hi Anna

there is a growing number of Cumberland newspapers on-line at:

http://www.cultrans.com/

but the info you are searching for may be a bit too late / modern for this.

I would try contacting Carlisle Library Local Studies section - they are always very helpful.    If they don't have what you are looking for they should be able to point you in the right direction and if you can be sure which paper it is they will copy it for you.  If you are not then they will research for you although there is a fee.

http://www.cumbria.gov.uk/libraries/localstudies/local2.asp

The site contains a link to all the papers they hold.
