16th century archives Plumtree
« on: Friday 30 December 05 21:49 UTC (UK) »

Hello guys

This is a very long shot and it might be years before anyone replies, but hey, we have waited years already...

On 4th December 1574, that is 431 years ago, John Baldock married Isobella Sheilay in Plumtree, Nottinghamshire. (It is also my brother's birthday)

Lots and lots of descendants of this family are now ardent genealogists - including me.

They are the furthest back we have been able to go because the parish registers simply do not exist before then.

I am hopeful that I will find time in 2006 to visit Nottinghamshire Archives/Record Office, but then again, I have not been for nearly ten years so am not holding my breath.

Do you ever go to Nottinghamshire Record Office?

Might you be able to have a poke about in manorial records, such as there might be, for Plumtree for this period?

Could you see if there is anything at all about Baldock and Sheilay in those records?

Imagine how great it would be if you could help all the hundreds and probably thousands of descendants to go back beyond 1574

I am holding this here in the hope that Google and other search engines pick it up and one day someone somewhere who is a really good archivist can help.

Very best wishes from all Baldock descendants

Louise
