Shop in Ellesmere
« on: Saturday 31 December 05 15:20 GMT (UK) »

Hi wondered if there was anyone from Ellesmere that can help me i have researched my mums Cooke family back to early 1800's Ellesmere. I have that the a brother of my direct descendant i assumed actuallt owned a Drapers Shop in 14 Scotland St Ellesmere. I have followed his ownership through the Kellys Directorys until 1941 and wondered what happened to the shop since then. The name of the assumed owner was Isaac Cooke born c1850 Wolverley  Hall, Wolverley which is where my direct descant  Thomas Cooke was also born

Cher

I went to a family history fair a couple of weeks ago and picked up a book called "A Pictorial History Ellesmere and District 1790-1950" by D Pratt published by the Local History Committee, Ellesmere 1983 Exhibition.
ISBN 0 9508850 0 2
There is a picture on p.15 of Scotland St. and a mention of Isaac Cooke, draper.

Worth getting hold of if still in print for you.

Best wishes
