completed- can anyone help locate rodington heath
« on: Sunday 01 January 06 00:55 GMT (UK) »

Can anyone tell me about Rodington Heath is there anything to know?  Being born and raised East Yorkshire i know nothing!! My Dad's father's family were from here it seems i only found out recently and not from my dad.  Agricultural labourers or shepherds and miners of some kind according to documents i have just seen.  Can anyone tell me where it is exactly - i have found Rodington on the map.  They are the Hulse family which my dad's cousin has kindly informed me are originally from this area but later 19th century one moved to Manchester my gggrandad i think? i have copies of some certificates i.e. Reg dist: Wellington Salop - Encall Magna 11-12-1865 for a Henry Hulse mother being an Elizabeth Chetwood + Father Joseph Hulse.  i believe that he had a daughter Elizabeth Hulse who married someone with the surname Knowles my ggrandad, the first name elludes me and this is my grandad's surname and my maiden name, my grandad was from tyldesley or bolton in manchester i can't find his birth registry though(1913ish).  I am very new to this and i seem to spend most of my time going round in circles or hitting walls because there is not really anyone to ask left now. Is there anywhere else i should be looking?  any help would be greatly appreciated. thank you

try

www.old-maps.co.uk/gazetteer/10shrop301/10shrop301gazR.htm

and then go to Rodington Heath and it should bring up a map showing it just North of Rodington.

Valerie appears to have covered your needs superbly, happy new year,

Thankyou so much. i really appreciate the effort on my behalf. i am very new to this and i'm still finding my feet.  The census information is really useful and something i do not have as i only get to use the internet for short times. still on dial up really should get broadband.  got a bit confused with the census online service pricing and stuff. but you have given me lots to go on and i've finally found rodington heath so thats good and thanks again.
in addition i have also discovered my ggrandfather's name was john william knowles in lancashire married in 1912 to Elizabeth Hulse at st johns wigan so finally getting somewhere i can go back from this now hopefully thank goodness.   Em.
