grandma Margaret Graham HUNTER born 1893 in Stirling
her mother Janet HUNTER born in 1869
possible parents for Janet:  John HUNTER and Catherine HOOD

Janet later married John KNOX but I can't find a blessed thing on them...They might have moved to Glasgow or Edinborough

Hi Wendysu,

Have you tried Scotland's People? (www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk)

The birth certificate for Janet Hunter born in 1869 will be available to view and download from Scotland's People and from this you'll get her mother and father's name and also the date of their marriage.

It's a pay per view site but when you consider the information you'll be able to access from even one certificate, it's well worth it.

Yes, I have spent a BUNDLE at Scotland's People....One part of the problem is Janet didn't marry Margaret's father and Janet's mother wasn't married to Janet's father...but at least his name is mentioned....I've searched various censuses and can find nothing on Janet HUNTER and John KNOX who must have married somewhere between 1893 and 1915 as Margaret lists her parents as Janet and John Knox and has adopted the last name of KNOX....Margaret immigrated to Canada around 1911 but can't find her immigration records....

How about this John as a possible potential husband for Janet Hunter . . .

I presumed that he would be around the same age as Janet making him born 1869 and did a search for any John Knox in Sirlingshire aged 12.

Only one came up and this is him (and the rest of his family)

John Knox married Janet Hunter...apparently...and I haven't been able to find anything...throughout Scotland or elsewhere....I think it is marvelous that you would put yourself out that much for a stranger and I greatly appreciate it....!

(I was thinking that John Knox, the son aged 12 might be the future husband?)

Oh, yes, sorry Anne.  He could be a potential husband for Janet...Problem is, I can't find but one marriage between a John Smith and Janet Hunter...except one in 1964...and the ages aren't right...Tried censuses too....I did just find a later marriage for Catherine Hood...in 1879 to a Robert SMITH...On the off chance I checked for a Janet Smith and John Knox but that didn't work out...hmmmm
