Gutters ?
« on: Monday 13 September 04 23:29 UTC (UK) »

Checking out my wifes family I came across their listing in the 1881 census. The village is given as Sellack and their address is given as "Gutters".

Is this "Gutters" a place name or were they living on the street (big family 7 kids even the 12 yr old is listed as "ag lab".

Hi Falkryn,

Just a thought but did you get the information from the familysearch site as it is known to have some pretty wild transcription errors Sad

Gutters sounds a bit dodgy to me Huh

If you post the details of the family then we can look and see if they are on either the 1871 census or the 1891 and if we can find them then maybe we will get the answer regarding the address Smiley can't promise though!

Thanks,
The info came from a set of 1881 census CD's .. there is one error in that they mis spelt the village of birth (Kemply instead of Kempley)

Thanks very much for that.

Re "Gutters" I have now received a copy of the 1901 census which appears to confirm "gutters" as an address albeit with a different family living there.

Wait till I tell my sister in law she came from the gutters  Roll Eyes
