« on: Tuesday 14 September 04 13:31 BST (UK) »

Are there any other Woodley/Gilbey/Gosling relations from Stansted, Stansted Mountfitchet, Bishop's Stortford, Manuden, Bentfield /Benfield out there?
In 1780
Matthew Woodley
, gentleman of
Benfield Bower
, Stansted Mountfitchet died.
Other notable local landowners were Robert Gosling and E Fuller Maitland.
Matthew had a son Matthew born~1749 and daughter Susanna. Matthew jnr. had children William, Matthew, John, Thomas, Catherine (married Daniel Gilbey), Mary (married a Banham), Sarah (married a Shepherd), Elizabeth (who married Henry Burrows, chemist of Saffron Waldon).
John Woodley
was born Stansted, ~1792. His wife's name was
Sarah Fuller
born~1793 Beechamwell, Norfolk and at the time of their marriage, 1816, he is noted as from Aldgate, where the Woodley family had houses at Crutched Friars and Aldgate High Street. Later they lived at Or(/x)ford House, Common Lane in Walthamstow, one of his brothers having a property at Upper Clapton. Sarah died on 20 Dec 1856 in Brighton, two years to the day before John who had moved from Regent's Park, London back to Brentwood, Essex.
John's sons
John Banh(/k)am W
 born 5 Mar 1829 and
Matthew Fuller W
13 Jan 1833 were  brewers/cornfactors and later worked at the Corn Exchange, London. There was also a sister
Eliza W
born 1826 Bow, Middlesex who had a house in Folkestone by 1860s. Where their Boughen cousins can be found with her.
Matthew Fuller Woodleys daughter Winifred Mary married Francis William Gosling about 1890.

Geoff
I just found a Woodley in 1851 who was a visitor and wondered if anyone was looking for him..which led me to your post!...and I noticed you have an interest in Gosling's, apparently Goslin/Gosling/Joslin/Josling/Josolin and other variants are all part of the same family...my cousin married a Joscelyne (another variant) and I now supply any variants (including Gosling's) I find in the Surrey 1851 to Peter Joslin..I believe several books have been written? and a large society is in existence, who meet periodically, below is his website

and just in case!
