Are records for occupations held in HALS.

Can anyone help, my 2nd greatgrandfather was born in Bishops Stortford and at the time of his wedding in 1844, he was residing at Butchery Green,  his occupation was listed as Tanner, what I am wondering is, where and who he would have worked for. If records of employment are held for work back then would they be held at HALS. If not how can I find out more.  Thanks

I would have thought that in 1844 a tanner would be working for himself.  He would be buying skins, tanning them and selling them to saddlers, harness makers and shoe makers.
