Census information Crown Copyright, from www.nationalarchives.gov.uk
|
Hi. Newbie here. I'm at the early stages of researching this - I can find some census and BMD info, but if anyone has info on the following, up or down, I'd be more than grateful :
George Pryke, b. abt. 1818 in Lidgate, Suffolk. Married Elizabeth Howe in 1838, Newmarket, and settled in Kirtling, Cambs.
Their daughter Julia Pryke married a William Lomas, groom/stablehand/domestic servant in 1884, Newmarket. I'm particularly interested in William, but 2 censuses show different birthplaces - Wolverhampton and Muchley, Shropshire...
I have various siblings listed if the surnames ring any bells.
TIA

Hi
If you let us know which census info you have, we can fill in the blanks, so we're not duplicating things you've already got.
Have you got Williams and Julias marriage cert? Maybe we can find him as a child on the census with his parents if you havent already got this....
Catherine

Thanks for the replies and the welcome. Hope I'm doing right by replying to 3 replies in one post...
I have no BMD Certs yet - I'm getting all the free info possible, then I'll order certs for any brick walls that I come up against.
I have the marriage ref. for William and Julia - Newmarket, 3b 691 (this may prove to be brick wall #1)
I have 1891 and 1901 census data for William & Julia (Crofton, Bucks and Kentford)
1861 and 1881 census for the George Pryke household - Kirtling.
I also have the marriage of George P and Elizabeth Howe, June 1838, and the death record for George Pryke Dec 1890, Newmarket 3b 349.
TIA for any more help. Mark

I saw that, but the age was a bit out, and on the 2 later censuses where 'my' William is with Julia, his birthplace is Wolverhampton (1891) and Muchley (Shropshire)... I checked the map, and Kemberton and Muchley are far enough apart that they're not the same place, IYSWIM... I haven't discounted him - it's just that there's no evidence to link him yet. As he's on my direct line, I'll probably order a marriage cert for him and Julia, and hope that pins him down. Thanks Mark

I have an Elizabeth How - b abt 1818, Kirtling -- but no other details. I am descended from one of her siblings.
The How name seems to acquired and 'e' in the early 1800's, though not all descendants have the 'e'.

A bit of a long shot but was wondering if those reading this thread (who are clearly experts in the field) can tie any of their family trees to my great-grandfather Francis Howe who was born in Kirtling on 6.1.1881.He was the son of George Howe ,a farm labourer, and Eliza Howe (nee Leach).
I've only recently started tracing back my tree and any tips/links/data sources appreciated eg how do I find the birth certificate of George Howe ? (I've found the FreeBMD website which is v helpful and keeps the costs of certificates down) but how can I decide if he's the one registered in Newmarket in Q4 1851 or George William Howe registered in Newmarket in Q1 1861 or neither of these !
Thanks in advance

HOW
George - 35 - ag lab Susan - 30 Rhoda - 12 Ann - 9 George - 6 Mary - 4 Lottie - 2 John - 6 months
HO107/65/3 - Kirtling Folio 20 Page 15
As George was born before civil registration (1837) there will be no birth cert. You could try and find a baptism in the Kirtling parish registers.
