I have been able to confirm that the Mary Fletcher that I was seeking was the daughter of Duncan Fletcher (1798-1882) and that his first wife Mary Black was the mother.
This information was confirmed by someone who had walked this path before me, and who was not put off by the fact that dates recorded on official documents cannot necessarily be relied upon!!
