Hi Goeffe
Thank you!
That's a brilliant link to Lincolnshire marriages. My friend and I will both make good use of that!
I've already found some intriguing entries! I always find Lincolnshire thoroughly confusing!
Thank you all.
Best wishes
Emms

Hi Redroger and thank ypou for the kind offer! To tell the truth I couldn't even think what to write to describe the problem! It's partly these divisions in Lincolnshire. Probably all the answers are on this board somewhere, but I haven't found it.
Do the divisions - Kesteven? - etc still operate and are they like the Ridings in Yorkshire? I know I have ancestors - Showlers - appearing in Spilsby and Strubby? and Wainfleet St Marys/ All Saints and others. I found some on a modern map, but if I'm asked for and area I don't jnow what to put.
Then when I looked at the brilliant site you linked I was siur prised to se Wainfleet appear under Spilsby!
Not a good explanation!
Feel free to give it up as a lost cause but I'd really appreciate any input.
Thank you again!

Hi Emms, The three parts of Lincolnshire Lindsey, Kesteven and Holland were identical in function with the Ridings of Yorkshire. Prior to Local Govedrnment reorganization in 1974 they formed three County Councils, they were then abolished and replaced by one County Council for Lincolnshire, and an entirely new County Humberside was created, which embraced both banks of the estuary with a variety of local District and Borough Councils subordinate to them. There have since been further reorganizations, with Humberside County being abolished, and functions except police and fire returned to Grimsby, Hull and Scunthorpe etc. The registration district for WAinfleet was Spilsby, if I can help further please let me know. Thank you Roger
That's just what I needed. Thank you for taking the time to explain!
I knew about Yorkshire. I was in ull, so called North Humberside for a short time in it's early days. I suppose I'd heard about this, and about Lancashire/Cumbria but not Lincolnsihje. Also the Lincolnshire divisions have such amazing names, I always expected it to be something more complicated.
I would never have thought of Spilsby being the Registration district either. I guess I'd never heard of either of them until recently. I know local registration districts and the others I need are in quite large towns I've heard of.
Werte these divisions used throughout the 19C as well then? I must look for a better map and go into these again.
Thank you again for your efforts.
Best wishes
Emms
