All my own work!
« on: Saturday 02 June 07 20:57 UTC (UK) »

I know about copyright & that I musn't use copy & paste to post information on Rootschat. I sometimes find it easier to type the info into notepad & then copy & paste that into the reply box, at least if rooschat or IE goes doolally, I haven't lost the work.
I've just been doing that only to get the copyright notice & that the work must be my own.  It is my own work I typed it with my own fair hands!!! Angry Angry Angry So I had to type it all again directly into the reply box Angry Angry I'm worn out  Grin
It's very annoying.
I feel better for that!

If anyone right clicks to carry out the copy etc function, they will get that copyright notice.  Even I can get it to do that by accident  Grin.  It serves as a gentle reminder to be careful not to copy and paste information from a copyright protected source.

The funny thing is, I was able to do it yesterday.  I’ve just typed this into Word, copied & pasted to see what happens, & it’s been accepted.

The copyright notice which flags up is more predominant in the Lookup and County boards than in others such as this Board as it is in those boards that there is the greater danger of copyright material being pasted

Ah, that explains it, I was answering a query on the Kent board when it happened. Thanks Falkyrn & Nell.

Hi Betty,
You didn't have to type it all over again..

Do a copy in your Word doc.....then when you come to the Rootschat board.....click your curser and then do Ctrl V......it will paste it

Ctrl C= copy and Ctrl V=paste

Cheers

Hi Betty,

It is only the right click that has been disabled on Lookup Request Boards. It still works on other boards. This was done to remind members when they go to paste something - Is this your own work or has it perhaps been copied from a transcribed source. If it is your own work there is no problem. A lot of people prefer to work from a Word Doc for exactly the reason you do. There are other ways to copy and paste.  Wink

To copy use Ctrl and (Letter) C This will copy to Clipboard

To paste use Ctrl and (Letter) V This will paste it to the Board

It may be a little different for a Mac user

Good Luck.........Kris  Cheesy

Hi Betty,

I was just wondering whether it was because you aren't displaying this on your profile:

"Census information is Crown Copyright from www.nationalarchives.gov.uk"

I remember I once deleted mine by accident and like you I received a copyright warning.

Kindest regards,

Pels

Good point Pels, I never thought of that, thank you.  I suppose it's something we should all have & I've now added it to my profile.

Well, after a session of annoyance and frustration, plus a visit to the pub, I have eventually found this by doing a search on "paste".

I always use the right click function to copy and paste.  It did not occur to me that a different method might work.  I assumed that it wasn't allowed.

So why not add a prompt to the copyright box to let members know that it IS permissible to copy and paste one's own work?
