Hi Andrea,

I searched the Bovingdon parish records for the period 1835-1850 but regret found no baptism entry for Maria Freeman.    The only Freeman during that period was for Ann d/o Sarah Freeman born 27May1835 bap 02Sep1835.

Regards   ...   Peter

There is a Freeman baptism in Bovingdon with a mother called Dorcas

Buried 19th October 1831

No baptisms for any of the Kemp children.

A possible death registration for Dorcas

Deaths Mar 1881
Kemp  Dorcas  76  Amersham  3a 313

Amersham registration district covers Chesham.

Marriages Jun 1856

KEMP  John     Hemel Hempstead  3a 363

Yes if you have the details from the actual marriage certificate or the entry in the parish register. I thought you must have that because you knew Maria's father was called John Freeman (if you were illegitimate and you could get away with it you often gave your father's details as having the same surname as your own).

It might also be worth obtaining the details of Dorcas' marriage in 1856 or the Maria Kemp birth (if it is the correct registration) to see if Dorcas maiden name was Menton. Either of these would help prove the census information - that is if it is the correct Maria.

hi
my brother copied the details ( about 15 or so  years ago)

from parish records in watford i think

but he did not write them down the witnesses
as we did think it necessary .we just wanted a date and parents .

we now have access to census, bmd entries  etc on line

i did not think to re check my early research  and buy certificate .
i will probably buy both the birth you have found,  dorcas marriage  and maria marriage this week

thank you again for your help in tracing maria

i had forgotten my own advise double check my reasearch .

Forgive my ignorance because I'm still quite new here and still trying to navigate my way around.

How do I find my way to the board with the on-going discussions about the Freeman's?   I'm having trouble with my Freeman ancestors from Hertfordshire.

Thanks

Hi Andrea

Yes, I'm a member of the Genes Reunited site and it was probably me talking about the Freeman's. I've posted several messages on their tips board.

Your suggestion to start a chat on Rootschat is a good one, which I will do. It's one of the few things left that I haven't yet tried.

Thanks again
