What info do you have Bob?
It seems likely this is Newton Abbott (can't think of an alternative, but maybe someone else can?)
There is an Arthur who marries in 1907 in sussex and a chap who seems to be him at college in Brighton in 1901 - would this fit with what you know?
kind regards, Arranroots

Hi Arranroots
Many thanks for your quick reply.
This sounds very much like him. Well done
The information I have on Arthur is very scant.
A 1908 family letter says he was recently married which fits your.......
"There is an Arthur who marries in 1907 in Sussex"
And a previous letter written in 1896 suggests he is:
"a chap who seems to be him at college in Brighton in 1901"
The handwriting is poor and I don't know the area but the school seems to be Margot or Margots.......
Have been looking for several years for him. There are very few Arthur Lionel Rose on file anywhere.
Yes I think it will be him...... would appreciate any further information that is available.
Regards Bob NZ

Hi Arranroots
Excellent. The top one is the Arthur I'm looking for
And according to a scratchy family note Ethel Mary HARRISON is his wife
Not sure who the other lady, Annie Sarah HAMMOND could be.
Arthur and Ethel had a female child born 1908 who dies at a young age..... I don't have a record of her.
Yes I would be delighted if you could trace them back further.
He was born in London c1881
I have found another letter suggesting he and his wife were living at Whitstable in 1914.
Really appreciate your help. Many thanks indeed

Hi Bob
I am finding it hard to determine which young man is him in 1891! Do you already know his father's or mother's names, or siblings, please?
There are a couple that could be him, but no perfect match. Was he known as Lionel, by any chance?

Hi Arronroots
Father is Arthur Veel ROSE Mother is Isaie Marion ROSE nee CLAUDET
Woops, they married 9-9-1879 and were divorced c 1891.
Have full records for the mother but no birth date for Arthur Lionel.
The father is proving a mystery after the divorce too.
Hope that helps Again.. very appreciative of your efforts
Bob

Yes he was known as Lionel in the family to distinguish him from his father.

Yes, I just found Arthur V in 1881 -I had his mother as a candidate in 1891, so now we can do both!
Here's 1891 - you can find 1881 at familysearch if you haven't already?
RG12/107/136/23
ROSE Isaie Marion H M 31 - Living on her own Means - London Lionel A son 9 - London Kilburn + lady's maid
Address: 23 Carlingford Rd, Hampstead.
Will see what I can discover of Arthur Veel.
