anyone like a challenge?
« on: Wednesday 04 January 06 21:13 GMT (UK) »

looking for the maiden name of my great grandmother.....here goes!

her christian name was Emma, (born 1863 Brimington). She married someone with the surname of Leader around 1883 possibly 1882. The marriage i believe would be in Chesterfield or Brimington (a parish of Chesterfield). they had one son George, before mr Leader died. she later remarried as Rice.
Stumped on this one so any help is appreciated.
Thanks everyone

Do you know the age and birthplace of George. His mother's maiden name will be on the certificate.

Looks like Emma could of had George out of wedlock, there is an Emma Neal in the 1881 census that almost fits.

Emma Neal, age 20, housemaid born Brimington

Emma was in the household of a family called Robinson at Wheal Bridge House, Brampton, Derbyshire.

Hi,

If you order the above marriage certificate it should give the bride's father'e name.  This would be Emma's maiden name.

Hi
I'm confused Shocked Did you mean to write Neale rather than Leader in your initial message? Then Leader rather than Rice for second marriage? Are you sure she did marry a Mr Neale - Neale could be her maiden-name, George having been born out of wedlock. The certificate for her marriage to William Leader would reveal all.

There are also two deaths for Thomas Neale in Basford on free BMD in 1885.  Although they are 45 and 47 years of age.

Assuming your dates are correct, these are the only "Emmas" baptised at Brimington 1862-63-64
Emma = George & Harriet Smith 6/3/1864
Emma = William & Eliza Hunt 23/11/1862
Emma = Richard & Elizabeth Cope 21/12/1862
Let me know if you want anything further checking
