Hi,
I wonder if any of you with a 1871 census of Gloucestershire could please be so very kind and look up something for me.I'm trying to find my GG grandmother, but I just keep drawing blanks, and hitting brick walls with her. I've come to a halt on that line..
I don't know if she was legally married. I should explain: I have the Birth certificate for my great grandmother whose name is Florence Rosina Batten, and it lists her parents as being Susannah Jane Pattison (maiden name) and father Joseph Batten.
I am trying to find Susannah Jane Pattison ( or Batten if she is telling the truth and is married to Joseph Batten) Hopefully she hasn't lied about her own name. I have a funny feeling the spouse doesn't exist) .
In all the censuses I have seen 1891, 1901 ( and part of 1871, but couldn't find Goodhind st in 1871 , as the ancestry site was not searchable by a st address alone, and I'm not very familiar with the Bristol area)
I can't find her anywhere by the name of Batten or Pattison, or can't find Florence ( the daughter ,in the 1881, or 1901 census) who definitely existed by that name as I'm holding her birth cert, Also my father can just about remember her when he was a young boy , and she an old lady . My grandmother ( she's dead now) told my mum once that her family were Pattison , which has turned out to be correct by the birth certificate I got .
This line is just one big blank, very frustrating.
My G grandmother Florence was born June 1871 ( only just a few months after the 71 census) But the residence of the informant, her mother, is number 1 Goodhind Street Bristol. So I am hoping that I can find her mother Susannah in the census by the address she gave on the daughters birth cert in June 71.
Is it possible for someone to go straight to that number 1 Goodhind street and look to see who is living in that house in the census of 71?
I hate asking, but short of me ordering/buying the 1871 Gloucestershire census to look for this one person who may or may not be there. I don't know how else I can trace her. I know nothing about her age, when she died , where she was born etc, and can not find Susannah on the BMD either.. Pattison sounds like a Scottish name to me (?) .Most of my family lines are in Wales, so I don't really want to buy a Gloucestershire census cd for the sake of one person. I'm spending a fortune as it is on the counties of Wales. It's sending me broke ! )
Thank you so much for any help.

Thankyou so much!!! I think you have actually found them. On my birth certificate that I have for the daughter Florence batten ( June 1871, it listed her mothers address as 1 goodhind st Bristol .. so they must have moved very soon after that census if that is them . Her father Joseph Batten occupation is listed as Carpenter too on the birth cert.like what that census says.
No I did not find those. I could not find any Susannah/susanna etc batten married to a Joseph batten at all anywhere. I had no age for these two parents , as all I have got is a birth certificate for the daughter. Is It just the two of them in the house?
Thank you so much for being so kind and taking the time to look for me. I've got something to look into at last with these two.
