Risk Street Home, Dunbarton.
« on: Saturday 14 January 06 11:19 GMT (UK) »

I am trying to find out about the Risk Street Home in Dunbarton.
It was my g g grandfather last address when he died, in 1945.
Was it an Old Peoples home?
And is there anywhere I could find the records to see where he is buried.
I would like to pay my respects when I visit Glasgow in May.

Hi Pettsy, it's me again - not sure is it's the same Risk Street, but there is a Risk Street just down the road from me.

It's a very small street with big old mansion type houses, it's in a conservation area.

There is a childrens home there just now - Ramsay House it's called. I doubt it's the same house, but perhaps years ago there may have been an old peoples home there.

The council for this area is West Dumbartonshire, why not try and email them.

I contacted Clackmannanshire Council about the existance of a Gavins Quarry and they were very helpful.

It's worth a try.

How did you get on Pettsy, any reply from them yet?

I've been out of action for a week or so, a run in with some rather unpleasant kidney stones!!!!!

I'd love to know if they got back to you.

Hi MissPooh's
I hope you are feeling better now.

I have not had a reply from the council.
But I also contacted the Library, and had a reply to say Risk Street Home was know as a Model Lodging House, it was situated at the corner of High Street and Risk Street.
All cities had Lodging Houses largely for migrant workers in the 1840's.
They had to be licensed, and then the Model Lodging movement tried to improve standards appointing managers and demanding disease to be reported to the authorities.
The modern equivalent would be a hostel.

I still do not know where the records are  Huh

I will try the council again.

Think it's a different Risk Street to the one near me, that one sounds like it's actually in Dumbarton, I'm in Dalmuir.

Hello Miss Pooh's thanks
Still no word from the council, they must be busy.
I will try again at the end of the week.
Any luck with you husband's cousin yet?

Cheers
