Leggy,
I did post a reply earlier that has disappeared !
The only Isaac CHAPMAN listed in 1851 as b East Garston was: Beenham Bourn Lane
Isaac CHAPMAN, Head, Mar, 31, Ag Labourer, b Berks East Garston Elen CHAPMAN, Wife, Mar, 24, , b Berks Beenham Jamima CHAPMAN, Daur, , 1, , b Berks Beenham George BURGHESS, Lodger, U, 22, Ag Labourer, b Berks Beenham
I've had a look at the 1841 census for East Garston and Beenham and can't find Isaac. However at the top of the page on the 1851 census is:
George CHAPMAN, Head, Widow, Ag Labourer, b Berks East Garston Sarah CHAPMAN, Daur, , 4, , b Berks Beenham Brother ??
In 1861 (assuming that I have the right Isaac):
Beenham Bourne Cottage
Ellen CHAPMAN, Head, W, 35, , b Berks Beenham Jemima CHAPMAN, Daur, , 11, Scholar, b Berks Beenham Josiah CHAPMAN, Son, , 9, Scholar, b Berks Beenham Ann BURGESS, Mother, W, 72, Pauper, b Amberley Sussex William BURGESS, Lodger, Un, 47, Ag Lab, b Oxon Woodcut
Regards Harry

Leggy,
Assuming I do have the right Isaac, this is the likely marriage:
Bradfield, Dec 1848 Vol 6 Page 305 - Ellen BURGESS on the same page.
Can't see a death for Isaac 1851 - 1861.
Harry

Hi, I have Chapmans in Leckhampstead/Beedon, Berks from 1752 in my tree, I am aware of Chapmans in Wantage/Letcombe Regis, Brerks from 1657 in someone elses tree and I am aware of Chapmans in Tilehurst, Berks. But this is the first I've heard of Chapmans in Beenham/East Garston!. My earliest record is the birth of George Chapman to William and Elizabeth in 1752 in Beedon, Berks. I've been unable to prove a link to the Chapmans of Wantage/Letcombe Regis but keep me in mind as you make progress... in turn I'll look out for your Chapmans in Beenham/East Graston when I next visist the BRO. Regards Graham.

Hi Lynn, I am a Chapman! I started out tracing my family's roots in Lancashire and within two generations found myself, much to my surprise, in Leckhampstead!. My lot appear (almost miraculously) in Beedon in 1752 and then migrate north post 1871 (Industrial Revolution 1 - Agricultural Recession 0). Last direct line baptism in Leckhampstead was 8th July 1871... next child was baptised Hellifield, Lancs 1875. I am now concentrating on burials in an attempt to find siblings etc of my William and Sarah prior to their arrival in Beedon. I can't see a link at the moment (but watch this space....). Happy Hunting. Graham.

thats a bit of a coincidence-my grandmother (maternal) was a Chapman, my grandfather a Charlton and his mother was from Lancs too....his father was born in Shottesbrooke (Oxon) so he must have travelled up there round about the same time as he married in Ormskirk 1878 had 1 child up there then brought the family back to Henley! Obviously travelling wasn't as difficult then as we imagine! I also have a group of them in Peasemore which is smack in the middle of Leckhamstead & Beedon...very interesting....Unfortunately I have only managed to get back to 1813 with the Isaac I was asking about, (brother of my direct ancestor, John) but I may have probs there as parents are listed as Isaac Bradfield & Mary Chapman. Guessing that children were base-born & took mothers name but can't find any info on either parent or John being born in East Garston. Ho hum. never mind, it certainly keeps the brain ticking over!! Good luck with your research and if you do come across any links let me know and vice verse. Regards, Lynn.

Hi Lynn, On further investigation I have a William Henry Chapman marrying in Peasemore on 17th Oct 1824 to Jane Deacon and a Mary Ann Chapman being baptised on 4th April 1847 in Leckhampsted. If they are of any interest to you let me know. Graham.
