I am currently researching the Taylor side of my family and have had some success in going back in time. It seems that my great, great grandfather Daniel Taylor from Cliviger shared his mother's surname Johanna Taylor in 1841..I have ordered his marriage certificate to vainly hope his father is mentioned on it...I believe on birth certificates the father wasn't so I'm not that hopeful really. So it seems that the best avenue to go down is to go from Johanna backwards in time. I do know that she was born in 1805 in Burnley, her parents were Stephen Taylor (died, I reckon 1841 Burnley) and Ellen Taylor. The church Daniel married at (to Mary Law in 1859) was called Holme in Cliviger, St John the Divine, and I know it still exists so have written to them as well for any info on graves they may have. If anyone could point me in the right direction as to how I can go further back than 1805 that would be great. The addresses Johanna and her beau Ismael Bannister (hubby then I think, used to be her "lodger") was Grincliffe Neck, Cliviger and my great, great grandad Daniel Taylor and wife lived next door at Law House, Cliviger in 1861. All this info will (either) be useful or do your head in, take your pick!!

There are a few entries on the IGI that may give you a bit of guidance--1780 a marriage to Ellen Smith,a baptism entry for a Stephen- 1760 and then there are a whole list of children belonging to Stephen and Ellen to work on somebody out there [if you are lucky] may have done research on them.Good hunting

try www.familysearch.org./ ----click onto advanced search that will take you to some options onthe left there is a section International genealogical Index.On the right enter parents names don't enter anything else except for the details required for the bottom line-- this will then bring up details of their childrens baptisms. Hope you understand all that

I have looked on the site you mentioned and wow, didn't Stephen and Ellen have a lot of children, my they were busy! Seriously, though, where is Joannah? As far as I know she was born in 1805 and she doesn't seem to be there, how strange!

Hi using the same site just insert Johanna's name and fill all the details in ---it comes up with her being baptised at Burnley

Jane go onto the site again-click advance search--click the International Genealogical Index then enter
Joannah Taylor
Click birth then 1805 as year
British Isles --England----Lancashire
About 6 entries show --I think she was the bottom one
Click on that one and it brings up place of Baptism and her parents
