Getting back to the original message, don't EVER give up - or at the very least don't give up at first try!!
Yes, I've despaired when I've typed up heaps of info and have seemed to have 'lost' it! Sometimes even when I've decided that I've typed so much info that it's time to cut and paste into email and stupidly (horror and of course I've been an idiot) my attempt at 'copy' (CTRL-C) has resulted in replacement of all the text with the letter 'c' (and there's no 'undo' facility!).
NOW - this certainly won't always work BUT it's at least worth trying. Yes, click back and back until you get to somewhere you obviously don't want to be. BUT, if this doesn't work, start clicking forward and forward and forward and keep going. It's always worth a try. And if, going backwards or forwards, you get to one of those pages which says in sum 'page expired' ignore the message and keep on clicking back or forward as appropriate again and again.
It's surprising how often trial and error will come up with the typed material which one thought one had lost ...
Well, that's my story and I'm sticking to it

I think there is a time out thing as well. I've lost so many posts because I get distracted at work. How bloomin cheeky! Distracting a girl at work from RC - don't know how they dare
So what I've started to do is before posting the message I select it all and ctrl c so if it goes all wrong I can just get a reply screen and ctrl v as I've got a copy in the clipboard.
Just a wee tip.

Here's a tip that I found useful: when you have your list of search results, press shift before clicking on any link you want to look at. This opens a new window for reading the topic, but keeps your search list intact, so you can look at other topics, without having to start the search again. It also means that you can switch from one window to another to compare topics.
I found it takes time to remember to press shift each time, but it's well worth remembering !! a "ps":
this is also a good tip for other search engines (Google & Co.); much quicker to back to the list as it doesn't need to be re-loaded (very handy if you are on a dial-up connection !!)
