i am trying to find JOHN BENNETT innkeeper ,his wife was MARY born 1799 ELDON ? DERBY lived at Top of HORWICH ,fernilee and i think owned the BOARD INN . I think that their children at that time were mary,elizabeth,allan cameron,john,arthur and maybe hannah and jacob

I have searched the 1851 census index of Derbyshire but found nothing for your names.

hi Sunflower,here is what i have,in the1881 census MARY BENNETT was born ELDON DERBY and a publican ,widowed and living in TOP OF HORWICH FERNILEE DERBY.she has two grandchildren JOSEPH and GILBERT living with her and her daughter HANNAH ROBERTS born in fernilee derby and son in law.BY 1901 CENSUS HANNAH ROBERTS is living in BOARD INN FERNILEE a widower.In the 1881 census MARY BENNETTs son JACOB BENNETT (my GGGRANDFATHER) I

hi again had not finished message .....as i was saying JACOB BENNETT is listed as being born in HOPE DERBY 1845 in 1881 census married to louisa, have found JOHN AND MARY BENNETT ON THE IGI as having more children all baptised in TAXAL CHESHIRE .They are JACOB 1844,HANNAH 1841,ARTHUR 1839,JOHN 1836,ALLAN CAMERON 1835,ELIZABETH 1832,MARY 1823 MARIA 1830,ELIZA 1834.i have also found in PIGOTS 1835 a JOHN BENNETT publican BOARD INN HORRIDGE END which was later horwich end.I Have found a BOARD INN IN WHALEY BRIDGE CHAPEL ROAD but am unsure if it is the same inn my ancestors ran,also i think at that time whaley bridge was in cheshire but am a bit confused.was hoping that JOHN AND MARY BENNETT would be on earlier census could you maybe look in 1861/71? would be most grateful as i am really stuck on this one!thank you anna

Hi anna
Have you looked at the Taxal burials which are online. There are several Bennett's including a John Bennett who was buried 18 Jan 1848 aged 50. His address was Horwich. Could this be your John? www.disley.net/taxal-burials/taxal-burials.html
or if you go into google and type in Taxal.
I have only got the 1851 census index of Derbyshire so cannot help you with the 1861/71. The index covers the area of Fernilee but not Taxal which must come into Cheshire. Maybe Mary and the rest of the family were in the Taxal census for 1851.

many thanks for your help,disley.net is an excellant website
i have found all the family on taxal baptism ,and one child on yeardsley 1851 census and one on 1871 yeardsley but no sign of mary and john Bennett.i think the john bennett you found might be my john
will try taxal census for 1851 cheshire
