I am a US resident researching a great grandmother who emigrated (as an endentured servant) to New York prior to 1880.
In trade for UK research on my great grandmother's family, I will volunteer my resources here in the U.S. I have access to vast US genealogy resources and libraries - mainly US censuses, and some experience with US and Canadian birth and death records.
Details on great grandmother:
Rebecca Smith b. 1 March 1863, Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, England m. Charles Van Olinda (date and location unknown) d. 9 March 194, Los Angeles, Calfornia, USA
Volume and record number for birth record: SMITH Rebecca Wolverhampton 6b 464
Mother's maiden name: Bloxwich
My primary interest is to find the first and last names of her birth parents, and possible sibblings. I also know, from conversations with my grandmother, that Rebecca had at least one brother. Nothing further known.
Thank you in advance, Laura

Hi Laura
Welcome to Rootschat!
The ref that you give for Rebecca's birth is by far the best place to start. if you send for the certificate it should give you the parents' full names and her father's occupation. Also an exact address for her birth.
That will give you a head start with looking for census information.
It is a good idea to post look-ups on the board for the relevant county. If you are willing to do look-ups in the US that would be wonderful and your offer is in the right place. If you look at the US look-ups request board, I am sure you will find lots to exercise your skills.
Good luck with your search
kind regards, Arranroots

Hi, I am interested in looking up my Hopwood family (Spotland Gate is our best guess). I did look up Rebecca Van Olinda and this is what I found: Information removed due to copyright violation. See http://www.rootschat.com/forum/copyright.php for more details
RootsChat must deal with any breach of copyright by its members.
For some time the team of Copyright Editors has been removing breaches of copyright and sending detailed personal messages to the member that had posted the information. Due to the volume of posts and members this is now impractical. Messages in breach will simply be deleted and this notice posted. We apologise for any inconvenience caused but are sure you will appreciate the importance of this issue.
Her and hubby are listed as mother/father-in-laws to the following family:
E. Edwin Stoughton (age 38) Head of household Louisa C. Stoughton (age 28) Wife Marie Stoughton (age 1) Daughter
Charles was listed as age 68, and born in Illinois, USA His father's birthplace is simply listed USA, but his mother's is listed as Connecticut, USA
Here's my info: Moses Hopwood (abt 1702-1760) was supposedly born in Virginia, USA, but I believe he immigrated here to the states. He had sons Christopher, William and John. John Hopwood has a town named after him in Fayette, Pennsylvania, as he was an aide to George Washington (Revolutionary Pensioner). Anything about Moses' line that has some legitimacy is greatly appreciated. Thanks.... and I hope the above info is a start. If this is the correct family, I'm sure I can help more, as well.
