Marriage of Ishmael Bannister & Joannah Taylor year?
« on: Sunday 15 January 06 20:59 GMT (UK) »

I am currently researching both the Bannisters and Taylors of Cliviger, Burnley.  Joannah Taylor was residing with "lodger" Ishmael Bannister at Grincliffe Neck, Cliviger, along with her Taylor children in 1851.  By 1861 Joannah was sharing Ishmael's surname (residing at the same address) so presumably they were married in those 10 years.  Could anyone let me know where I should start finding proof of this, please?

Thank you.

Thanks very much for that information John.  Why I didn't try Bannister with just one "n" I don't know!

Cheers

Jane

I have a problem (if you could call it that).  Joannah had many children, all residing with her in 1841 at Cliviger, Burnley.  I have information regarding her son, Daniel Taylor (who is my great, great grandad) and am currently awaiting his Marriage Certificate to Mary Law in 1859 as it might mention his father (no luck with this yet).  I have been told -and it's perfectly feasible - that Joannah was once married to another Taylor, as she mentions being "widowed" in censuses.  I do realise, however that she might be economical with the truth, but what do you think?  Would it be worthwhile delving further into her past to see if she had married another Taylor?  Let me know your thoughts, I'm determined to find out who Daniel's Dad was.  Intriguingly, there is an Ann Taylor residing with both Ishmael and Joannah in 1861, aged 16 and I have a feeling she is Ishmael's, could be wrong though!  Sorry, this is getting complicated!

Hello Jane,

I see the problem now! It will be interesting to see Daniel's Marriage Certificate. Hopefully it will mention a father.

I think the Ann in 1861 must be the same Ann who's listed as Joannah's daughter in 1851, aged 6. She could well be Ishmael's.

Is Joannah the one christened in 1805 to Stephen and Ellen [IGI]? There's also a marriage to a Samuel HOLLAND in 1822, but that could be a red herring.

It's difficult to say if she married another TAYLOR or not. She could have married another name and then reverted to her maiden name - I've seen that happen before.

I'll look forward to hearing about Daniel's father Smiley

Regards,
John

Yes it is the same Joannah...and the same Ann.

Thanks for the info, I can't wait to receive Daniel Taylor's Death Certificate, bit morbid I know but I will keep my fingers crossed that it mentions a father.

I will keep you posted.
