Hello,

On Sunday, 15 Jan, I asked for an 1841 census look up for the Hay family.  Only to realize as soon as I had posted the request that the family must have left Orkney between 1834 and 1840.  As they had a daughter, born in Hartlepool in 1840. Embarrassed

So I am trying to find out about the Hay family prior to this.

Henry Hay was born around 1803 (give or take a few years, he seems to forget when he was born!), born in Orkney.

Barbara (Barbra) Hay (nee Young), his wife, born around 1816 in Stromness, Orkney.

They married in 1834 in Stromness, Orkney.

They had a son Henry Hay, born around 1836, place of birth given as Scotland, nothing more specific.

I know that this isn't much to go on, but I have my fingers crossed that somebody can help me.  If anybody has access to the parish records for that area, I would be grateful if the could fill me in with any other details regarding the family.

I can't find record of Henry/Harry Hay born in Scotland to parents Henry and Barbra Hay

Thank you very much for the information on the Young family.  Another Rootschatter has left a link to the 1841 census for Orkney; I am going to go onto it now, to see if I can find them.  I don't know where you got the information from, but if it was from Parish records; out of curiosity could you tell me which religion they followed.  It may also help me when I try to find them in Hartlepool.

The information on the Henry/Hary Hay leaves me in much confusion!!
