You did not give any idea of where in Ireland William came from. I am wondering how you will know it is the correct one Undecided

I found this reference to the Caulfield family by accident - my Great Grandmother was Sarah Caulfield, daughter of Richard and Catherine.

She married John Tottel and had 14 children, one of which was my Grandmother, Catherine Clara Tottel born in Newquay, Cornwall.

Do you know much more about the Caulfield family?  There seems to be some connection with the Leader family, but I don't know much about this.

The only other children of Richard and Catherine besides William are these from the BVRI.

Catherine Born 21 April 1869 682, Kilkeel No 2, Down, Ireland FHL Film 101185
Sarah Born 7 April 1871 675, Kilkeel No 2, Down, Ireland  FHL Film 255818
Teresa Born 13 June 1873    Kilkeel No 2, Down, Ireland 255875

Except for Williams entry Catherines surname is enterd as Cunningham.

Hmmm.......looks like I'm up the wrong tree here then???  My Great-Grandmother (Sarah Tottel nee Caulfield) is listed in our family bible as being born 28 July 1866 in Queenstown.

I found the following births on FamilySearch.org:
Mary Kate Caulfield 10 Mar 1880 in Cork, Cork, daughter of Richard Caulfield and Kate Coughlan
James Caulfield 24 Feb 1878 in Cork, son of Richard Caulfield and Catherine Coughlan
Sarah Caulfield 28 Jul 1866 in Queenstown, Cork, daughter of Richard Caulfield and Catherine Coghland

as well as this marriage:
Richard Caulfield and Catherine Coughlan on 14 Oct 1865 in Cork, Cork

As far as I'm concerned, my ancestors were a William Caulfield born in Irleand around 1872 and a Catherine Poole who married in Cardiff in 1900. According to their marriage certificate, William's father was a Richard Caulfield, a diver, deceased before the marriage. Does this ring any bells with you?

Nice work there for Kim! As to your Caulfields, have you explored Down as a possibility? That was a fairly common name. Take a look at Ros Davies' great site for Down. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~rosdavies/SURNAMES/C/CasCaw.htm#cau

Hi Andy

Most of my information regarding the Cork family side is from a family bible now held by my dad.  We were very excited recently to find a folded document in the pages of the bible which we hadn't noticed before. 

It is a pension document for Richard Caulfield issued by Greenwich Hospital Pension fund allocating a penison of £23 per year for Captain Richard Caulfield.  The pension document states that Richard was 37 at the date of issuing of this pension, which he could receive from 12 February 1880, but only if he was no longer serving in the Navy.  The document itself is dated 3 March 1880.  This would put Richard as having been born circa 1843.

If this is the same Richard, perhaps he was a navy diver.

We had always supposed this was Sarah Tottel's (nee Caulfield) father.
