I started searching for my partners mothers side, Tallacks of Cornwall as we had just bought FTM for her birthday 7 years ago.  Started putting info in from research notes one of our mutual friends had done.  Got to 100 and submitted tree!  Thought that was great.  Went on to ask my dad about his family has he knew nothing other than his grandad Rowley.  Got them back to 1650's in Broseley, Shropshire in 7 years.

Currently have 12993 on the tree and going for a record rather like rootschat!  I just love researching.  It is addictive!

It was my cousin who got me interested in doing my family tree when she started doing my dads side of the family.

I soon got the bug and started searching on my nans side (my mums mum) as there is a mystery as to who her parents were. Unfortunately it is still a mystery!

I then went onto my grandads (mums dads) side of the family, who have proved to be a lot easlier and have got them back to 1725!

Definately won't give up on the mystery though!

Hi,
Five years ago, virtually to the day,I read an article in a free booklet in a Sunday paper on how to trace your family history on the Internet.  Up till then I had avoided the family Computer like the plague.
Had a play around with some names and got 'really thinking' about my late Nan's birth Mother.  Overnight got obsessed with finding out what happened to her, though have had to learn Patience.
Recall reading an article at that time by someone who had been searching for an Ancestor for five years and thinking I would have given up long before then.  Roll Eyes

Still have little idea what happened to Great Grandmother but I have found lots about the rest of her family/ other twigs.  Met lots of people round the World and helped some find their families.  Had some great help too, which is always much appreciated.  Even if someone looks and cant find anything, I am always very grateful for their efforts, like most of us!

My search started with a chair! Dad's great-uncle was killed in WW1 and his parents dedicated a chair in his memory at the local church. When we were in the UK in 2004 we (Dad and I) went to have a look at it. I was really overcome. Not only was it a wonderful piece, but to see the plaque with the actual name on just made him seem so real. There is a lovely portrait of the gentleman, but because of a family rift I;m not likely to see it again. It used to hang in my Grandma's "front room" and I remember it clearly. He was quite a goodlooker!!!
