Does a death certificate have a maiden name on it? *COMPLETED*
« on: Saturday 21 January 06 11:04 GMT (UK) »

Sorry, this might seem like a dead obvious question but I just want to check as I am at a brick wall at the moment and if a maiden name is on a certificate then that might be the step I need.

No the death cert. only has the name of the person and the informant. If the informant was not a member of the family it does not provide a great source of info.

Geoff is absolutely correct - with the proviso that Scots certificates do provide this info.

As long as you as thinking of English or Welsh certs this is what you can expect:

Hope this helps

Have you posted for the person concerned or can we help trace them?

kind regards, Arranroots  Wink

Hi Anna,
My Grandmother, Mother and Mother-in-law's D'Cert's all have their maiden names on them. Maybe it's a recent thing as the earliest one of them is 1982.

I'm not too sure how common this would be - however; I've received a copy of a Death Certificate through today from 1861.
Under 'Occupation' - it lists "Daughter of..."
So this could be another valuable source of information.

Richard
