Please could someone help me find the parents of Barbara Jackson. On the IGI there is a Barbara Jackson Christened in 1843 in Barton, but it only shows her mother as Hannah Jackson. I received some information from a lady which suggested that Barbara was born out of wedlock so I really need to confirm this. I sent off for her birth cert but got a reply that it could not be found, so I wondered if there would be any information in the parish records? or maybe her marriage cert would give her father's name. She married a Edward Howe possibly in Barton but may have been in Penrith Cumberland, she married sometime between 1864 and 1867. I know this is a long shot, but any help or suggestions would be welcome
Many Thanks
Janet.

You can search for her marriage on the GRO index which is now online and free at www.ancestry.co.uk
If there is no father shown on her christening record, I doubt there will be one on her marriage cert. However, I have come across instances where an illegitimate child has "made up" a fathers name on a marriage cert just to save face with the in laws

Many thanks for your reply, I have been busy on Ancestry all week and found no birth or marriage for Barbara Jackson. Just seem to have hit a brick wall with her. I'll go back and have another look, but I'm not hopeful, I don't think Barbara wants to give anything away!
Janet.

Hi Janet
Did you know that the full GRO index is now on ancestry - as well as the partial index (freebmd)
The 1871 shows a child aged 7 so I would guess on a marriage 1862/63

Hi Carole,
I've been going through them but still nothing. on the 1871 census the first child is the son of Edward and his first wife Elizabeth Nicholson, she died in Jan 1864 so the marriage has to be after this date and hopefully before the birth of the next child who was Barbara and Edwards. I can't think why the marriage is not showing, but maybe my only chance of finding anything is to look at the parish records for either Penrith or Barton. Thanks Carole for your help.
Janet.
