Adding a search engine to my website

I was thinking about adding a search facility on my website (to search my site), but I have no idea, who provides a good one (freely) and what to do from their.

Any suggestions welcomed

Hi Sharon

Google let you put their search engine onto your site - its pretty well the most popular search tool available so most people are familiar with it.  It gives people the chance to 'search this site' or to search more widely.
