Oldtimer's picture had me dig out the photos I took of the graves of Tchaikovsky and Borodin, close to each other in St Petersburg, in 1997.

Hi Meles

That is a fabulous cemetery, isn't it! Famous people at every turn.

It was 1981 when I visited it, so my pictures aren't up to much!

A little wander from the mainstream topic but having visited Maggellans cross http://mikerafael.multiply.com/photos/album/555/Magellans_Kiosk and the beach at Mactan, what I haven't seen or been able to find is His grave. Some research indicates that I am unlikely to do so but any comment would be welcome.

Strangely enough, the man responsible for Magellans death (Lapu Lapu) http://www.travelblog.org/Photos/3889692.html also remains illusive. One would have thought that such a figure would be well researched.

This is Shakespeare's grave along with a transcript of the plaque.
Since my visit earlier this year, I heard that the building is in danger and needs a lot of work to make it safe.

I've often wondered if he is genuinely buried there ... after all, the chancel is usually kept as a place for graves of clergy and very important benefactors of the church; whereas a play writer (in his time) was considered like we would consider hippies and drop-outs these days ...

Dante Gabriel Rossetti's grave at Birchington on the north Kent coast.

I don't know why they didn't take him back to London to be buried.  All they had to do was put the coffin on a train  Huh
