Can someone please tell me if Walkern is close to Bennington. I've found so many of the names I am researching, in these two areas, I was wondering if they are close to each other.   Smiley Lyn

Hello Linda. that was a quick reply, thank you so much  Grin  I am researching a family by the name of COLLINS, and have found loads in  Bennington and Walkern. The earliest certificate I have is a marriage between James and Frances Catlin in Ardeley 1828. Frances is also shown as Fanny. I think James was born 1807, and the marriage certificate shows a George on it, but doesn't say it's his Father. I haven't managed to track their deaths so far, but the latest I have them is on the 1871 census, still in Bennington. There are also loads of Collins's in Walkern, so I wondering if they are related.  Smiley Lyn

Hi Lyn,
Ardeley is also a village very near to Walkern and Bennington so they obviously didnt roam far. Believe it or not, I do know a Collins family living in Bennington so you are right, they are still around the area if they are descended from your family.
          Cheers   Linda.

Well Linda, what a coincidence  Cheesy Any chance of you asking them if they have any connection to a James Collins b 1807 ( I think ) in Bennington. James married Frances ( Fanny ) Caatlin in November 1828 in Ardeley. If you see them that is. Thanks  Smiley Lyn

Certainly can, but unless they are family researchers I dont know if they know that far back. Hopefully they have a family bible. I think my Mum sees them the most, so I will ask her. They are very pretty villages, Walkern and Bennington, with lovely and interesting churches. I have friends who are on the ministry tean there. And some great pubs that do good food if you every fancy a visit there.
                best wishes  Linda.

Hello again Linda. Thank's for saying you will ask Mum. I am in Australia. Hopefully the family will have a family bible, or even better, be doing their own family research. the marriage certificate of "My" James Collins shows he was married by J Walker. Rector of Cottered, in the presence of George Collins, but it doesn't say if George is the Father of James. And it looks as though they were all illiterate as it shows a X as their mark. The last information I have on James and his wife Fanny, is from the 1881 census, where they are both shown as 74 yrs of age, and living at Burrs Green. Bennington. There's no sign of them on the 1891 census, so they must have died between 81-91, presumably still living at Bennington, as they don't seem to have moved away.  Smiley Lyn
