I really loved seeing the photos of William and Gilbert and now a real live relative, this is edge of the seat stuff, I do hope the relatives share in our enthusiasm  Smiley

OK folks, here is the first text from Kevin in Oz,

Hi Jane,
A few days ago I received a similar email. I looked up my wife's
family tree and yes, she is a direct descendant of William and Hannah
Breyley. William was her great great grandfasther. I am a "ring-in"
Breyley - we joined names when we married some years ago. I have looked at
the museum site and the picture of the sampler and am cuious as to how it
found itself on a rubbish tip in New Zealand. I have spoken to the
Australian Breyley family tree expert. We may yet work out who the miscreant
was who deposited the sampler on the tip. Obviously they were not interested
in either the family tree or embroidery. I suspect it may have been a Wallop
and not a Breyley - but who can tell? I hope this answers your question for
now.

- Kevin Breyley-Smith

And the details of his wife's connection with Hannah & William,

William Braunton Breyley - Hannah Wallop
Walter Braunton Breyley - Amy Selway
(married 1893)

Gilbert  Breyley- Hannah Bray (married early 1920s)

John Breyley (born 1 Nov 1925) - married Bettie Welman (27 Dec 1955)

Robyn Breyley (born 1960)

So, Robyn is a great grand daughter of Walter & Amy!

Kevin has also given me the email address of the Breyley family historian in Oz, so will get in touch with him with an invitation to join us here on Rootschat.

I know you will think I am daft Embarrassed, but then again perhaps you won't....but I was nearly in tears looking at the photos, and I honestly don't know why Huh.  All I can think is that this has been yet another triumph for Rootschatters and watching the story develop has been so exciting and moving - hence my earlier comparison to the soaps...only better Grin

I just wish I had someone who I could tell all about it who would look remotely interested Sad...I also wish that I could find something significant to add, but I am just too sloowwww Sad Grin...one day I'll get it!

I have been doing a bit of Googling for the Breyley name and came across this http://www.supply-chain.org/page.ww?section=Instructor+Biographies&name=Mark+Breyley

I have sent him a very nice and friendly email, asking him to have a look at this thread.  I've no idea whether the email address still exists, but here's hoping.

I will let you know if I hear anything.

Scroll down the page and the name Breyley appears in the list.

Don't know if this is any help, but thought I'd post it anyway Cheesy

Having read this thread a few times, and that of the mystery photo found at the site of a plane crash in Wales, I sense that you are missing having a December challenge.

Perhaps when the sampler is resolved, we could have a new challenge, perhaps for January, but based on something tangible as these have been. So for instance we might try to find everyone associated with an entry in a family bible that someone has spotted in an antique shop.

I think searching for living descendants is more complicated, unless you really do need to know who they are, because of the privacy aspects, so best in a general challenge to steer clear of that.

I think the challenges based on a random entry in the census were great fun, but if you have something extra, like a photo, then it is more personal and special somehow.

What do you all think?

Does anyone know why the challenges died a death? Or havent they and I have just missed them of late?

Cheers
