Hi, yes I have enjoyed very much finding out about Hannah. I am pleased she lived to a good age! All I had managed to find out about her was the names of her parents and the date of her marriage. The sampler is showing its age but the needlework really is beautiful and I find it hard to beleive someone would throw it away. thanks to everyone on this site, all the best Tania

Hi Tania
It's lovely to see you here on Rootschat, thank you so much for saving the sampler
I agree with you, Riley. Although we're good at all this research, I think it's beyond us to find out physically how that sampler arrived in Auckland. What has transpired from all this, is that the sampler has returned 'home'. We know more about Hannah and her life. Living descendants have ben found and drawn into the chase. We've all been captivated by the story and probably expanded our family research skills! I think Hannah would be well pleased It's a sobering thought to picture 13 year old Hannah stitching that sampler more than 150 years ago, probably by lamplight with her family around her. Did she have any idea what a stir that very same piece of embroidery would have in the year 2005...I think not! RIP Hannah & thanks for an entertaining few weeks. Jane Jane, I couldn't have put it better myself!!!! A big thank you to you for starting the thread; I have thoroughly enjoyed following the developments.

Happy new year everybody,
I have been back in touch with Roy the family historian for the Breyleys in Australia he replies as below
To All, I have done a little research on my great grandmother, Hannah (Wallop) Breyley, and her eldest son Alexander, married Alexandria Percy, and at the time of Alexandria's death she had sisters who were in New Zealand and one brother in Newcastle (NSW, Australia I believe). So maybe, and only maybe, as this is the only connection to New Zealand, Hannah could have given the sampler to her daughter in-law, who in turn may have given it to her sisters who then took it to New Zealand. (That is possibly the best explanation you will get!) I know no more of Alexandria's sisters in New Zealand. I hope this has answered or solved this mystery. This message may be passed on if you wish. Yours, Roy Breyley.
So the game is a foot again to quote Sherlock Holmes

I think this thread is going to be one that "won't be ignored"
Hopefully Tor's query in The New Zealand Genealogist will have a positive outcome. Fingers crossed

Greetings Tor
Google brought up this:
"And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus" (2 Timothy 3:15).
Cheers Koromo
